Foods to avoid: Pillsbury brand products

- Company: General Mills
- Products including: Toaster Strudels, Crescent Rolls, Ready-To-Bake doughs, pancakes, Ready-To-Bake Cinnamon Rolls, Ready-To-Bake Biscuits, etc.
- Fact: Products listed contain one or more of these ingredients: high-fructose corn syrup, saturated fats and trans fats.
- Fact: This list includes MANY of the General Mills’ Box Tops for Education items, items my son’s elementary school keeps telling us to purchase, so we can cut off the little coupon on the product box and turn it into the school which they can cash in for ten cents per coupon.
- My letter to BoxTops4Education about my concerns. Note: At the time I wrote this March 20, 2007, Box Tops for Education’s contact form stated my address, phone number and date of birth was required:Why would I be required to give my mailing address, phone number and date of birth to send a question? Would you ask me all these things before I could ask a question on the phone?
I think Box Tops for Education is a great idea. However, I’m saddened to see how your “Featured Products” are for the most part such unhealthy choices. Pop Secret, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury…these are not products children should be eating every day, regardless of what their colorful commercials or packages say. High fructose corn syrup, trans fats…I’m sure you know this already. Our children need healthier foods. Most parents don’t pay attention to ingredients. They feel good about buying Box Tops products because they feel they’re somehow helping out. What’s 10 cents to a school when a large percentage of their children are overweight or obsese, and have related medical problems? The kids are getting bigger and bigger. Please help by pursuing healthier food choices for your campaign, or get rid of the food ones. I’ve asked the friends and family members that in the past collected your Box Tops for my son’s school to not collect them anymore, unless they’re from non-food items, and I’ve done the same. I’m writing a letter to his school about this as well.

Customer Care - Healthier alternatives: Make your own biscuits, cinnamon rolls, pancakes. The rest are things no one should be eating, anyway.
