- Fact: In Quebec they call imitation maple syrup Sirop de poteau or “Pole Syrup”, implying it’s been made by tapping telephone poles.
- Avoid all including: Aunt Jemima (Quaker Oats), Mrs. Butterworth’s (Pinnacle Foods), Eggo Syrup (Kellogg’s), Log Cabin, Smuckers, etc.
- Ingredients in the Aunt Jemima Original Syrup:
Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Water, Cellulose Gum, Caramel Color, Salt, Sodium Benzoate and Sorbic Acid (Preservatives), Artificial and Natural Flavors, Sodium Hexametaphosphate. - Healthier Alternatives: Any real authentic maple syrup.
